Migraine and light sensitivity lenses

Are you suffering from migraines or dizziness? Have you had a concussion and still not feeling perfect? Are you sensitive to supermarket lights and patterns?

After graduating, our optometrists received further training from the Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists ACBO and Optometric Extension Program Foundation OEPF. This includes assessment of people of all ages who have head injury, stroke, vertigo, motion sensitivity, dizziness, post concussional syndrome etc. and how their vision may be affected by these issues. Sometimes people are told they have vestibular migraine but you should also be assessed for binocular vision disorder causing some of the symptoms. Special glasses with prism or neuro-filters can often reduce symptoms. Its important to have urgent assessment after a head injury. And then, as part of your recovery you normally see your general practitioner and physiotherapist to help you recover from concussion. And also, an eye check in the first month after a head injury is important for faster recovery. But its never too late - some symptoms can last for years and can still be managed by the optometrist. Avulux lenses have a special filter for migraine sufferers - check with us if to trial this special filter.

A bit of advice, studies show you shouldn’t use phone or computer in the first 48 hours after a concussion. The strain on the eyes from devices makes the recovery of normal eye focus and tracking much more delayed and causes people to have much greater symptoms. Rest and recover and hopefully when you see the optometrist at week 4, you wont have any eye problems and symptoms will be minimal.

Update: Glenn has now completed studies in Accreditation in Neuro-optometric Vision Care.
